According to a February 1 report from Qingdao Daily/Guanhai News, China's high-end equipment manufacturing industry has once again gained international market recognition and successfully expanded overseas. January 31 marked another significant achievement for CRRC in the Indonesian market, with the signing of a contract to supply commuter electric multiple units (EMUs) with PT KAI Commuter (KAI Commuter). This is not only another milestone following the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway project but also the first time China has exported commuter EMUs to Indonesia. PT KAI Commuter, a wholly-owned subsidiary of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero), is responsible for operating commuter railway services in Jakarta and surrounding cities such as Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi, serving over one million commuters daily. Under the agreement, CRRC Sifang Co., Ltd. will supply three new EMU trainsets to the Indonesian side to meet the needs of its commuter lines. These new EMUs will adopt the latest technology, including 12-car formations per trainset, a maximum capacity of 3,396 passengers, a top speed of 120 km/h, a durable stainless steel car body, and a design specifically tailored for Indonesia's 1,067 mm gauge. The trains will be equipped with modern amenities such as LED dynamic electronic maps, passenger information displays, and a simplified driver control desk in the middle car to facilitate train inspection and maintenance. The new trainsets are expected to be delivered in 2025, significantly enhancing the commuting experience for Indonesian passengers. CRRC's cooperation with Indonesia has entered a new phase. Previously, CRRC Sifang successfully supplied 350 km/h high-speed EMUs for the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway, which have become a symbol of modern transportation in Indonesia since their launch in October 2023. These trains are highly favored by local residents and serve as a flagship project under the China-Indonesia Belt and Road Initiative. The signing of this commuter EMU contract further deepens cooperation between China and Indonesia in the field of transportation infrastructure and is expected to promote high-quality development under the Belt and Road framework. Didik, President Director of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero), expressed great expectations for this cooperation, believing it will open a new chapter of collaboration in areas such as rail transit and green energy. CRRC Chairman Sun Yongcai also stated that CRRC will continue to support Indonesia's efforts in rail transit construction and energy transition, contributing to Indonesia's economic and social development.
