Chinese automotive brand BYD, which focuses on Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs), has announced plans to build a factory in Indonesia, specifically in Subang City, West Java Province. The investment for this factory amounts to 16 trillion Indonesian Rupiah. The project was confirmed after PT BYD Motor Indonesia (BYD) signed a cooperation agreement with PT Suryabuat Swadaya, the developer of the Subang Smartpolitan industrial area. After multiple evaluations, BYD considers the Subang Smartpolitan industrial area to be the best location for BYD to develop its electric vehicle industry in Indonesia. This industrial area meets standards in terms of area, distance, environment, and infrastructure, so the completed facilities will be able to promote the development of Indonesia's automotive industry and the transition to clean energy, while supporting the country's economy, especially the surrounding regions. They are confident in these facilities. In terms of investment value, the company has prepared a substantial budget to explore the Indonesian automotive market. The budget includes a research and development center as well as training facilities employing the latest energy-saving and environmentally friendly technologies. However, they were unable to disclose the groundbreaking date for the Indonesian factory, with a current manufacturing capacity target of 150,000 units per year and a total investment target of over USD 1 billion in Indonesia.
