The Minister of Industry, together with four Chinese electric vehicle companies, namely Neta, Wuling, Chery, and Sokon, plans to make Indonesia an export-oriented production center for environmentally-friendly cars. The government has set a target of producing 600,000 electric vehicles by 2030. These four companies have also agreed to make Indonesia a hub for right-hand drive electric vehicle production, with plans to export cars to 54 countries.During the Minister of Industry's working visit to Beijing, China on June 12-13, electric vehicle entrepreneurs conveyed the agreement to make Indonesia an export production center. EV company Neta, through PT Neta Auto Manufacturing Indonesia, plans to increase its local content level (TKDN) to 60% by 2025, with an annual sales target of 10,000 units. Meanwhile, SAIC-GM-Wuling Automobile is expected to increase the export volume of Indonesia-made electric vehicles, thereby positioning the country's EV industry as a production base for ASEAN and the world.
The government hopes Wuling can explore growth in export markets, especially for EV products, to further emphasize Indonesia's goal of becoming a base for EV products in ASEAN and the world. Additionally, during a meeting with Chery Automobile, the company plans to conduct research on the production of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) in Indonesia. This is because PHEV sales are more popular in China, as PHEVs offer more economical fuel combustion compared to hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs). Furthermore, the company has committed to producing a total of 100,000 electric vehicles by 2030. The Minister of Industry stated that, given the Chinese manufacturer's production capacity of up to 50,000 units, Sokon, through SOKONINDO, is expected to develop electric vehicles and support the EV ecosystem by bringing various new EV models to Indonesia. These four Chinese manufacturing companies can utilize the incentives provided by the government for investment.
