The Minister of Trade (Mendag) revealed that millions of illegally imported ceramic products from China, worth IDR 79.8 billion, were seized at PT Bintang Timur warehouse in Surabaya. The total number of ceramic products confiscated was 4,565,597 pieces. Millions of ceramic products of various brands from China were not accompanied by import documents, including no Customs Clearance Letter (SPP) and no cargo delivery documents or consignment notes (CN). In addition, they lacked Indonesian National Standard (SNI) certificates, so these products cannot be distributed to consumers. He emphasized that the Trade Ministry took this action to protect the domestic industry. The Minister of Trade also acknowledged that most of these fraudulent practices were carried out by Chinese businessmen, who generally did not provide container information. They had been manufacturing domestically and then shipped the goods here, usually selling them based on product quality grades. Apart from potentially harming consumers due to lack of SNI certification, the issue of taxation on millions of ceramic pieces worth IDR 79.8 billion also remained unresolved. Therefore, the government must regulate this, as such situations could damage the domestic industry. As a result of this trade action, all illegal ceramic products were destroyed. Meanwhile, the entrepreneurs and their companies only received a warning. However, if they continue to violate regulations, they will face strict sanctions, including the closure of the business.
