The Director of Processing and Marketing of Plantation Products at the Directorate General of Plantations, Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan), revealed that Indonesia's large red chili stock is at a critically low level, and this situation is expected to continue until September 2024.He stated that this month the stock of large red chili in Indonesia is in a critical position because domestic stock is very low until September this year. Meanwhile, small chili stock is still safe, but shortages will also occur from November to December 2024, due to drought in several areas that are chili production centers, leading to crop failure, and some farmers have even cleared their land.
Meanwhile, the stock of onions is in a safe position. The only concern is that the price of onions will decline as major production areas such as Kendal, Brebes, and Demak enter the main harvest season. Currently, the price of onions is below the reference purchase price (HAP) set by Bapanas, with prices already at 18,000 IDR to 15,000 IDR and below, which requires government attention. The National Food Agency (Bapanas) has set the HAP for red onions at 18,000 to 20,000 IDR per kg for wet onions, 25,000 to 30,000 IDR per kg for newly harvested onions, and 32,000 IDR per kg for dry harvested onions.
