Multiple Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers showcased high-quality, innovative, and competitively priced electric vehicles at an automotive exhibition in Jakarta. The six-day PEVS electric vehicle exhibition opened to the public on Tuesday (April 30), featuring over 110 automotive brands including BYD, Chery, Wuling, Seres, Neta, MG, BMW, MAB, etc., and also offered test drive services for visitors. The exhibition was organized by the Indonesian Electric Vehicle Industry Association (Periklindo) to improve the country's electric vehicle ecosystem. Periklindo chairman stated that this regular exhibition had a large number of participants and called for all parties to work together to accelerate the construction of Indonesia's electric vehicle ecosystem. Periklindo aims to achieve total transactions of 400 billion Indonesian Rupiah at this event. Indonesia is currently striving to demonstrate its commitment to climate change and sustainable energy, especially by encouraging the national automotive industry to develop an electric vehicle ecosystem. BYD, the global leader in pure electric vehicle sales, announced plans to build a car assembly factory covering approximately 100 hectares in Subang Smartpolitan Industrial Area, West Java. The project will break ground in July and is expected to begin operations in 2026. The President of BYD Motor Indonesia stated that Subang Smartpolitan meets standards in terms of area, distance, environment, and supporting infrastructure. After multiple evaluations, BYD considers the Subang Smartpolitan industrial area to be the best location for BYD to develop its electric vehicle industry in Indonesia. BYD also plans to establish a research and development and training center in the area. In January this year, the automaker launched three models in Indonesia: SEAL, Atto 3, and Dolphin. These three electric vehicles are all battery-powered environmentally friendly products that have been sold in large quantities to nearly 70 countries. These three electric vehicles were again displayed at PEVS. Meanwhile, the CEO of Chery Indonesia Sales stated that another leading Chinese automaker, Chery, is gaining increasing popularity in Indonesia, having received orders for at least 3,600 OMODA E5 units since its launch in Indonesia last February. Chery currently has 17 dealer networks in Indonesia and plans to add another 20 this year, which will help expand its business in the Indonesian market. An Indonesian consumer visiting the exhibition expressed delight at seeing more Chinese electric vehicle brands entering Indonesia, giving consumers more choices. He claimed that he and his wife already own a Wuling car, and he was impressed by its latest battery technology, various features, and price commensurate with quality. They love the car because of its extraordinary performance. This EV (electric vehicle) is more economical, with a range of up to 410 kilometers on a single charge. Some of the cars at the exhibition are smarter than he imagined, and he plans to purchase other Chinese electric vehicles at the exhibition.
