PT Krakatau Steel and China's Hebei Province delegation signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Jakarta, led by Hebei's Executive Vice Governor, with the head of Hebei International Trade Group and several leading steel enterprises participating. The Governor of Banten Province has high hopes for this cooperation, believing that the establishment of large Chinese steel enterprises will support Indonesia's national industrialization process and drive local economic growth. Cilegon City is a traditional steel industry center in Indonesia. Banten Province has outstanding geographical and infrastructure advantages, including an international port with a natural depth of 21 meters, well-suited for the raw material transportation, product distribution, and deep processing needs of large-scale integrated steel industries, making it highly attractive to overseas investors. Relying on complete supporting conditions and the local leading upstream enterprise Krakatau Steel, Banten Province is expected to further consolidate its core position in Indonesia's steel industry. The President of Krakatau Steel said that the company has planned 2,000 hectares of land in the province's special economic zone specifically for this new Chinese steel investment project. The core goal of the cooperation is to reduce Indonesia's import dependence on finished steel and create an independent local industrial chain. In the future, Chinese steel plants will set up factories locally, directly using raw materials provided by Krakatau Steel, gradually achieving self-sufficiency in domestic steel. The Vice Governor stated that Hebei is an important steel industry base in China and has fully adopted modern environmentally friendly production technologies. He is optimistic about the long-term development potential of Indonesia's steel industry and expects this investment to not only deepen economic and trade exchanges between the two countries but also achieve technology transfer and create local jobs. This cooperation is an important step for Chinese enterprises to deepen their presence in Indonesia's manufacturing sector. Leveraging China's technology, capital, and mature industrial experience, combined with Indonesia's resources, land, and geographical advantages, the two sides will jointly build an integrated steel industry cluster. While promoting Indonesia's industrial upgrading and ensuring steel supply, it will also lay the foundation for broader industrial cooperation between the two countries in the future.
