Up to April 2024, imported goods from China to North Sumatra reached USD 88.5 million, equivalent to IDR 1.4 trillion. According to BPS North Sumatra data, imports from China to North Sumatra increased by 21.29% compared to March, reaching USD 72.9 million, equivalent to IDR 1.18 trillion. The head of BPS North Sumatra stated that the import value from China was USD 88.5 million, or 20.45%, followed by Singapore in second place.
Apart from China, North Sumatra's largest imports came from Singapore, amounting to IDR 1.1 trillion, followed by the United States at IDR 540.7 billion. Overall, as of April 2024, total imported goods entering North Sumatra were approximately USD 432.8 million, equivalent to IDR 7.05 trillion. Compared to March 2024, North Sumatra's import volume decreased, reaching USD 455.8 million, equivalent to IDR 7.42 trillion. The largest imported commodity was mineral fuels, reaching USD 91.2 million or IDR 1.48 trillion, followed by wheat worth USD 49.7 million or IDR 809.8 billion. Compared to March 2024, wheat import value dropped by 30.8% to USD 71.9 million or IDR 1.17 trillion.
