The Minister of Trade (Mendag) stated that he will tighten ceramic imports due to the large influx of illegal ceramic products from China. The Ministry of Trade recently confiscated 4.57 million ceramic products that did not meet SNI standards, valued at nearly IDR 800 billion. The Minister of Trade said that the massive influx of illegal ceramic imports will impact MSMEs, as their price competitiveness will decline. Illegal Chinese ceramic products often come at low prices, causing MSME products to become unsalable, so they will impose high excise taxes on each imported ceramic product. If products are imported from abroad, they will be subject to high taxes and must also comply with SNI, hoping this will no longer affect the price of Indonesian ceramics. Earlier, the Minister of Trade destroyed millions of illegally imported Chinese ceramic products belonging to PT Bintang Timur in Surabaya, valued at IDR 79.8 billion. The millions of ceramic products of various brands from China were not accompanied by import documents, including no customs clearance letter (SPP) and no cargo delivery document or consignment note (CN). In addition, they did not have Indonesian National Standard (SNI) certificates, which is considered detrimental to consumers. If such imports persist for years, local ceramic factories may close.
